Yasser is a barrister who specialises in employment, industrial, discrimination and public law. Yasser is a member of the Victorian bar but has a national practice.
Yasser regularly represents workers and unions in a wide range of employment and industrial law matters including matters involving industrial action.
Some significant matters that Yasser has appeared in relating to industrial action are:
Australian Rail, Tram and Bus Industry Union v Metro Trains Melbourne Pty Ltd [2020] FCAFC 81 (a case involving the operation of s.413(5) of the Fair Work Act); and
BlueScope Steel v AWU [2018] FCA 1574 (a case which considered what constitutes the organisation of industrial action).
Yasser assisted with the establishment of the Young Workers Centre (a specialist employment law community legal centre in Melbourne) and regularly accepts pro-bono briefs to represent activists.
